Asthma Medications

There are things in the environment that bring on your asthma symptoms and lead to asthma attacks. Some of the more common things include exercise, allergens, irritants, and viral infections. Some people have asthma only when they exercise or have a viral infection.
Genetic factors: asthma tends to run in families, and many people with asthma also have other allergic conditionssuch as rhinitis (inflammation of the nose lining). "Allergy" is a hypersensitivity to some proteins foreign to the body; a small dose of the "allergen" will produce a violent reaction in the person concerned.
Many people with asthma have allergic reactions to particles breathed in through the air, such as animal dander and pollen. These common substances are called allergens, meaning that they
cause an allergic reaction. The tendency to react to allergens by having an asthma attack is probably genetic

Treatment and care of asthma is directed toward immediate relief of the attack. Parents of asthmatic children may anticipate an approaching attack and medication that provides sedation and bronchodilation. The control of asthma depends on finding the cause and eliminating it. No smoking for adults who have asthma. There are two kinds of asthma medicines: those that relieve airway constriction and those that reduce swelling and inflammation like steroids. They are usually given via inhalers but pills are used as well. In some cases, studies have shown that coffee, can help relieve an acute asthma attack, supposedly because of the caffiene and heat.
Long-term control medications are taken daily to maintain control of persistent asthma. They primarily serve to control airway inflammation.
The quick-relief medications are taken to achieve prompt reversal of an acute asthma “attack” by relaxing bronchial smooth muscle.
Accolate Oral
Zafirlukast is used to prevent asthma symptoms and to decrease the number of asthma attacks in people 5 and older. It helps make breathing easier by reducing swelling (inflammation) in the airways. Regular use of this medication can help control your asthma, improve your ability to exercise, and decrease the number of times you need to use your rescue inhaler.
Long-acting beta-2 agonists (LABAs). These medications
are part of a group of medications called bronchodilators, which open up constricted airways. Long-acting beta-2 agonists, such as salmeterol (Serevent Diskus) and formoterol (Foradil Aerolizer) last at least 12 hours. They're used to control moderate and severe asthma and to prevent nighttime symptoms. Salmeterol or formoterol should always be combined on a regular schedule with inhaled corticosteroids and should not be used as the main treatment for asthma.

Asthma Medications for Asthma Control

Asthma medication plays a key role in gaining good control of your asthma. Asthma is a chronic (lifelong) disease that involves inflammation of the airways superimposed with recurrent episodes of decreased airflow, mucus production, and cough. Choosing the proper asthma medication is crucial in avoiding asthma attacks and living an active life.
There are many safe, effective medicines that can help you control your asthma. You 'll need a doctor's prescription to get these medicines. You will also need special advice on when and how to use each kind of medicine.

Because asthma symptoms are variable - they can get worse or better, depending on many things - you need to know how to adjust your medicines depending on your symptoms. Your doctor can create a personalised asthma action plan for you. This written plan will explain how to adjust your medicine depending on your symptoms.
A number of medications exist for asthma, and many are used in combination with others. Your doctor can help you decide which option is best for you based on your age and the severity of your symptoms. In general, the main types of asthma medications are:
· Long-term-control medications. These are used on a regular basis to control chronic symptoms and prevent attacks.
· Quick-relief medications. Also called rescue medications, you use these as needed for rapid, short-term relief of symptoms during an asthma attack.
· Medications for allergy-induced asthma. These decrease your body's sensitivity to a particular allergen and prevent your immune system from reacting to allergens.
Asthma Controller Medicines
Asthma controller medicines help prevent asthma symptoms when taken every day as prescribed. These preventive asthma medicines include several different categories. Each works in unique ways, and some are more appropriate for certain levels of asthma severity.
INHALED CORTICOSTEROIDS (Flovent, Azmacort)
-These medications are the most effective for controlling asthma on a long-term basis. Inhaled corticosteroids take up to seven days before they begin to work so they cannot be used with sudden asthma attacks. These medications are usually taken between two to four times a day.
THEOPHYLLINE (SloBid, Unidur)
-These medications are used on a long-term, regular basis. Theophylline can take several hours to work so it cannot be used to control sudden asthma attacks. These medications are usually taken once or twice each day.
Many people decide to stop taking their medications when their symptoms disappear. You should not stop taking your asthma medications without consulting your doctor. Most people with asthma always have some degree of inflammation and bronchoconstriction (narrowing) in their airways, even though they can't feel it. If you stop taking your medications completely, the cycle of inflammation and bronchoconstriction may start again and you could end up having a serious asthma attack.

Asthma Symptoms in Adults and Children

Asthma symptoms vary in severity from occasional mild bouts of breathlessness to daily wheezing that persists despite taking large doses of medication. After exposure to asthma triggers, symptoms rarely develop abruptly but progress over a period of hours or days. Occasionally, the airways have become seriously obstructed by the time the patient calls the doctor.

Asthma Symptoms in adults
Asthma symptoms start when allergens or other irritants cause the lining of the airways to swell (become inflamed) and narrow. The muscles around the airways can then spasm, (contract rapidly), causing the airways to narrow even more. When the lining of the airways is inflamed, it produces more mucus. The mucus clogs the airways and further blocks the flow of air. This is called an "asthma attack."
Different people have different signs and symptoms of asthma. Asthma signs and symptoms are also variable - they can change over time or depending on the situation
Asthma Symptoms - Chest Tightness
Some asthmatics may experience chest tightness. Chest tightness is a squeezing feeling in the chest during respiration. It may feel as though someone is sitting on your chest.
Shortness of breath (dyspnea). Shortness of breath is a major source of distress in patients with asthma. However, the severity of this symptom does not always reflect the degree to which lung function is impaired. Some patients are not even aware that they are experiencing shortness of breath. Such patients are at particular risk for very serious and even life-threatening asthma attacks, since they are less conscious of symptoms. Those at highest risk for this effect tend to be older, female, and to have had the disease for a longer period of time.
Symptoms of Asthma in children
Coughing and wheezing - Symptoms of asthma in children include coughing and wheezing. The cough is usually dry and hacking and is most noticeable while the child sleeps and during early morning hours. It may also be triggered by exercise. Wheezing is a high-pitched noise that is usually heard when the child breathes out.
Coughing and wheezing tends to come and go during the day or night, depending upon the degree of airway narrowing in the lungs. Breathlessness, chest tightness or pressure, and chest pain may also occur. In addition to coughing or wheezing, a child may report that their chest or stomach hurts
When asthma symptoms become severe, you will be unable to perform regular activities. If you have late, severe symptoms, follow the "Red Zone" or emergency instructions in the Asthma Action Plan immediately. These symptoms occur in life-threatening asthma episodes. You need medical help right away.

These Are Some Of The Causes Of Kidney Stones

Kidney stones are stone like masses that build up in the kidneys to form larger and harder stones. They are believed to be formed from minerals like calcium that do not find their way out with urine. Kidney stones are also called urinary tract stone disease. Among the signs that one can experience when they have kidney stones include fever, a general feeling of being sick, constant pain while urinating and an increased urge to urinate, discolored urine usually stained with blood or cloudiness, smelly urine where one has to observe the distinct smells, which is not a normal smell. One symptom that is usually common is extreme pain that manifests itself below the abdomen and in the kidney areas that flashes around the back to the front.
High levels of vitamin D can cause calcium kidney stones. People with other diseases like cancer can greatly increase the development of the stones. Uric acid stones can be caused by eating too much meat. Due to the very high excesses of uric acid when one eats meat especially beef, it is a major contributor to this kind of kidney stones. Diseases like gout also play a very vital role in increasing uric acid stones. It has also been found that a huge percentage of people suffering from gout also suffer from uric acid kidney stones and other forms.
Kidney stones could also be caused by high levels of ammonia in the urine. Due to the presence of ammonia in high quantities in women than men, hence the prevalence in women. They are yellow and crystalline. This type of stones are passed on by parents to children . Indeed, kidney stones can be hereditary. This often happens in the early stages of life usually between 10 and 30 years.
Not drinking enough water has been seen to cause or facilitate the progression. One should keep the urine clear by drinking enough water. Water cleans impurities from our systems very practically. People who do not take the required amount of water have very concentrated urine, this shows that their system is dealing with a lot of 'dirt'. Clear urine indicates that one's body is being cleansed effectively.
People who have had surgery in the intestine or around the stomach may be at a higher risk of developing kidney stones. This is because the normal absorption of minerals does not usually occur and this abnormality may cause kidney stones to develop. Also, when the parathyroid glands produce too much hormone, calcium production increases and in turn kidney stones form. Kidney stones can also form due to geographical dispensation. White people are more likely to suffer from the disease than black people. Engaging in exercise routine or strenuous activity is highly profitable to the body. But if one is not replacing the right amount of fluids in their body, they will most likely develop kidney stones.

One might ask, which is the right amount of water to take and probably know that it is 8-10 glasses a day but, one should learn to monitor the levels of water in their body. There are people who take more than 10 glasses a day simply because they feel more need for hydration. Apart from feeling sick, one cannot suffer adverse effects of drinking more than the prescribe amount. The secret is in taking water like food. Sips of water throughout the day will leave you wondering how much you have been able to contain. Lack of proper hydration will cause kidney stones to form and what a better way of averting the disease with water.

A Look At Some Of The Benefits Of Using Air Purifiers

Some time back when there were no agents to clean the air, people who suffered from allergies continued to suffer until the introduction of air purifiers. Air purifiers are devices that reduce impurities or contaminants in order to leave a more conducive environment for people and other organisms to live in. People who suffer from asthma are especially thankful to the scientists who invented air purifiers. It is not only people who suffer from such ailments that are at risk, but everyone who does not appreciate rude second-hand smoke that is emitted by smokers who do not take necessary precautions to protect the people around them. The air purifiers function in many different forms, but basically they work by filtering the air and releasing the clean particles to the atmosphere.
Air purifiers are used not only to remove smoke from the air, but also very many other impurities. They include pollen which comes from plants. As you may well know pollen is a very big factor when allergies are concerned. Other impurities include dust, pet dander and mite waste. Traditionally, people poured water to dusty spaces to reduce the amount of dust that would be transfered to the atmosphere but, today there are more modern ways to cub the problem. Usually most impurities are microscopic and need air purifiers to totally rid them from the air.
Air purifiers need some amount of electrical energy to function with efficiency. This can translate in more expense but a lot of positive effect to the environment. One of the most common ways to clean the air is using filters. Air is literally filtered by various methods and purified. This method is not very suitable for very large environments and may be uneconomical. Activated carbon is a highly porous material that can absorb impurities from the air and is usually used alongside filters. It cannot be used to absorb very huge particles and therefore limited in its function. To effectively get rid of mold, bacteria, or viruses a method that uses short wave ultra violet rays, has been proven to be very effective in its function. This method is called photo catalytic oxidation. Ionizer purifiers or needles that are used to produce electrically charged surfaces.
Another air purifier is the ozone generator. It produces ozone which is a strong oxidant. Ozone oxidizes most chemicals and therefore very effective in its function. Ozone gas is very dangerous and anyone thinking of getting this air purifier should take extreme caution and follow every safety procedure that is directed by the manufacturers.
One of the major factors that you should consider when choosing an air purifier is the kind of allergens you want to get rid of. Your purifier must be effective to the kind of problems that you have. It is wise to consider the safety indications of your method and there can be no compromise with that. You should consider the amount of space available to install your purifier. They come in all shapes and sizes.
Air purifiers play a major role in ensuring that life is enhanced and sustained. One can get small household purifiers in form of sprays which are widely available in the market or you can go for the advanced versions. It is vital to remember that people with no allergies can be affected by certain chemicals and it is therefore prudent to take some consideration in their favor.

Ways to Limit Alcohol Consumption

One of the major contributors to high blood pressure is the consistent consumption of alcohol. Regular alcohol drinkers increase the risks of elevated blood pressure because it affects the normal functioning of the body by reversing what it needs to remain healthy.
Any hypertension patient who has an alcohol problem must have their medications carefully prescribed and monitored by a physician. Alcohol and high blood pressure is a significant threat for further medical problems.

Although hypertension patients are administered blood pressure medications, the alcohol has a tendency to alter the effectiveness of the medications. The ultimate effect that the alcohol has may vary amongst individuals because of tolerance levels. Yet, the fact remains that the alcohol affects the flexibility of the blood vessels which elevates the blood pressure to critical levels.
Here are some effects that alcohol has on high blood pressure.
1. Weight increase: The large amount of alcohol causes weight gain due to increase in calories. As a result, further medications have to be prescribed to control the hypertension. This task renders difficult as the alcohol effects the medication which may cause extreme danger.
2. Increases risks for other medical complications: Drinking alcohol increases the risk of further complications that result from hypertension. People that suffer with cardiac illnesses, severe hypertension or congestive heart failure are in a severe life- threatening situation.
3. Decreases nutrient intake: Regular alcohol consumption affects the intake of calcium and magnesium. These nutrients are essential to lower blood pressure as well as to maintain a healthy body.
4. Diminishes effects of medication: Because the alcohol elevates and constantly alters your blood pressure, it diminishes the effects of the medication. Also, the alcohol generally increases the side effects of the medications. The two mixed together simply causes further medical complications.
If you are a heavy alcohol drinker, it is recommended that you seriously consider making a change in your lifestyle. As you can see, alcohol has a variety of negative affects on the outcome of high blood pressure. Your primary physician should assist you with developing a healthy eating plan along with a plan to decrease the amount of alcohol that you consume.

Using Diabetic Meter the Easy and Effective Way

Caring for diabetes is a crucial matter. A wrong decision in this regard may prove to be fatal. Most people tend to develop complications due to wrong use of medicine and supplies. This is the reason medical experts feel that diabetes care should be designed specifically for each individual patient. Certain patient require to monitor more offers are compared to others.
Glucose meters are devices used to monitor glucose levels in a diabetic patients.
There are several things you should take in to consideration when it comes to working with a diabetic meter. Make sure that you use it in an effective way.
Here are certain things you need to do when it comes to using a diabetic meter:
a) Usage period

How often you use your glucose meter actually depends on the recommendation of your health care provider. Usually, your health care provider will start a process of self-monitoring of blood glucose or SMBG for people with diabetes and especially those who are under insulin.
b) Learn
Next, you need to know how to use diabetic meter. Learn the whole process effectively from a diabetes educator. Make sure that your educator watches your glucose to teach you the exact way you can use you meter. Remember that the training is extremely important.
c) Hygiene
Proper hygiene is very important when it comes to using a diabetic meter. Make sure that you wash your hands carefully with soap and warm water. Dry the area completely or clean it with alcohol and dry completely cleanliness is very important to keep any type of infection of virus away from the body.
d) Prick
Now prick the fingertip carefully with a lancet. Don’t panic or show hastiness. Just prick it the way it should be done and you will be away from all sorts of tensions and complications.
e) The method
Follow the method mentioned below to pride the finger tip.
- Hold the hand down and hold the finger until a small drop of blood appears. Now catch the blood with the test strip.
- Follow the instructions provided exactly for inserting the test strip and using the SMBG meter.
- Now record the result obtained from the test.
f) Manual
Read the manual carefully for the instructions prior to using the glucose meters. This will help you understand about knowing the error codes when there is a problem. The manual also provide instructions about your meter and test strips for many sources.
Make sure that your user manual includes a toll free number in case you have any questions of problems related to using the glucose meter. Once you have learnt how to use glucose meter in a correct manner, you need to know certain factors that may affect the performance of glucose meter.

g) Hematocrit
It is the amount of read blood cells in the blood. Patients with higher Hematocrit values test lower for blood glucose, as compared to the patients with normal Hematocrit.
h) Attitude, humidity and temperature
These factors are responsible for causing unpredictable effects on glucose results.
i) Third-party test strips
These are developed by affordable options.

Toothbrush Cleaners

Lately I keep hearing about proper toothbrush maintenance. How toothbushes are a haven for almost every germ imaginable including tiny bits of fecal matter (poop) Eeeeww!! Everywhere I look someone is giving advise from Tyra, The View to Mythbusters. Well here is the bottom line on all findings on their shows and then some.
First off what I found out is don’t leave your toothbrush on the sink, unless you have a water closet. When you flush your toilet a process called aerolization happens. This is when microscopic bits of excrement gets vaporized and sprayed everywhere in your bathroom. These “bits” can reach as far as 20 feet away. It lands on your sink, walls, faucets and anything that is out like your toothbrush. So that being said, it’s recommended that you close the lid before you flush and put your toothbrush in the medicine cabinet or drawer. Now here are the conflicting points. The toilet isn’t sealed air tight, right? Can’t it still sneak out? It’s also recommended that we don’t put our toothbrushes in covers or in a cabinet or drawer. That it needs to air dry properly. These places are dark moist areas, a sure breeding ground for germs.

So what do we do? Well there are some of us that will just move on with life. I mean after all we’ve been living like this forever. Why go completely neurotic, which is what will happen if you have kids and/or a husband and want them to close the lid. Face it that’s easier said than done. Then there are those of us that will go out and buy a toothbrush sanitizer. Like me, I bought Germ Terminator and have no regrets. So no matter what happens with those “bits” you can always steam clean them and have a sparkling clean, sanitized toothbrush. Which ever one is you, always replace your toothbrush every month or two. Cancer Awareness

Cancer is the disease of the cells. It is an abnormal Growth of cells, which tend to reproduce in an uncontrolled way and, in some cases, spread or metastasize. A cancerous growth or tumor is also known as a malignant growth or tumor. A growth or tumor, which is non-malignant is called benign. Such tumors are not cancer.
Cancer is not a single disease. It is a group of more than hundred different and distinctive diseases. It is not contagious. Cancer can involve any tissue of the body and have many different forms in each body area. Most cancers are named for the type of cell or organ in which they start. If a cancer spreads (metastasizes), the new tumor bears the same name as the original(primary) tumor.

Cancer is the Latin word for crab. The ancients used the word to mean a malignancy, doubtless because of the crab-like tenacity a malignant tumor sometimes seems to show in grasping the tissues it invades. Cancer may also be called malignancy, a malignant tumor, or a neoplasm (literally, a new growth).
In medicine, common term for neoplasms, or tumors, that are malignant is known as Cancer. Like benign tumors, malignant tumors do not respond to body mechanisms that limit cell growth. Unlike benign tumors, malignant tumors consist of undifferentiated, or unspecialized, cells that show an atypical cell structure and do not function like the normal cells from the organ from which they derive. Cancer cells, unlike normal cells, lack contact inhibition; cancer cells growing in laboratory tissue culture do not stop growing when they touch each other on a glass or other solid surface but grow in masses several layers deep.
Cancer results from mutations of certain genes that allow the cells to begin their uncontrolled growth. These mutations are either inherited or acquired. Acquired mutations are caused by repeated insults from triggers (e.g., cigarette smoke or ultraviolet rays) referred to as carcinogens. There is usually a latency period of years or decades between exposure to a carcinogen and the appearance of cancer. This, combined with the individual nature of susceptibility to cancer, makes it very difficult to establish a cause for many cancers.
The most significant avoidable carcinogens are the chemical components of tobacco smoke. Dietary components, like excessive consumption of alcohol or of foods high in fat and low in fiber rather than fruits and vegetables that contain antioxidants and necessary micronutrients, have also been linked with various cancers. Some cancers may be triggered by hormone imbalances. For example, some daughters of mothers who had been given DES (diethylstilbestrol) during pregnancy to prevent miscarriage developed vaginal adenocarcinomas as young women. Aflatoxins are natural mold byproducts that can cause cancer of the liver.
Certain carcinogens present occupational hazards. For example, in the asbestos industry, workers have a high probability of developing lung and colon cancer or a particularly virulent cancer of the mesothelium (the lining of the chest and abdomen). Benzene and vinyl chloride are other known industrial carcinogens.
Risk to humans from carcinogens depends upon the dose and a person's biologic susceptibility. Factors influencing a person's biological susceptibility to cancer include age, sex, immune status, nutritional status, genetics, and ethnicity.

The Lavender Healing Element

Originally from the Mediterranean, lavender has become a popular herb all over the world and used for in aromatherapy, medicine, and for aesthetic purposes.
While all components of the lavender flower have the distinct lavender scent, the oil from the flower is considered the most important medically. Lavender oil has a broad range of healing properties and has been used for years as an antiseptic. When diluted with water, it is also serves as an effective cleaning agent. In fact, during World War II, lavender was used to disinfect and clean hospitals. It is also one of the few essential oils that can be applied undiluted to skin without any adverse reactions.

Widespread in aromatherapy, lavender essential oil is known for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properites and used to treat a myriad of different ailments including burns, arthritis, carpal tunnel, and depression. In addition, lavender oil used in diffusers, salves, massage oils, and bath salts helps to ease and relax tense muscles.
English lavender is often used in balms, perfumes, topical applications, and a wide range of cosmetics because of its fragrance and sweet overtones. It is also used for landscaping purposes because of its distinct woody scent and aesthetic appeal.
In America, lavender essential oil has become well-known for its calming effect and has become extremely popular. Mona, Utah is the location of North America’s largest lavender farm, owned by Gary Young. Every year, the farm holds its annual “Lavender Days,” a family-friendly festival filled with activities, food, and of course lavender.

Success in Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is major surgery which will change your entire appearance, and isn’t something to rush into. There are a series of decisions that have to be made about how exactly you’ll be having your breasts augmented. Your cosmetic surgeon will want to discuss these with you, to make sure you understand the options and are firmly decided on which course of action you want and why.
1. Saline or silicone gel?For fourteen years until November, 2006, the FDA had silicone gel breast implants restricted to breast reconstruction. They were unavailable for cosmetic use. Now they’re available again and in a new, even safer form.
Features of silicone gel implants• Silicone gel implants are generally thought to be more natural in their look and feel.• They come already filled in a wide range of sizes. Because they’re already filled, their size can’t be adjusted after they’re placed as saline implants can. • They use a new type of gel which sticks to itself. Even if the shell were to be ruptured (an extremely unlikely event!), the gel inside would not leak. It retains its form and the two manufacturers use the trade names Cohesive Gel and Memory Gel to make that point. It’s a similar idea to those memory foam pillows. • If you previously had saline implants, you can have them replaced now with silicone gel implants

Features of saline implants• They come empty and are inserted folded up, then expanded and filled. If you decide you’d like them a little larger or smaller, the saline solution can be adjusted after placement. • For each given size, they weigh slightly more than a silicone gel implant. • There is an extra incision location that can be used for saline implants since they are inserted empty. That is known as the TUBA incision and is in the belly button.
2. Placement: subglandular or submuscular? Implants can be placed over the pectoral muscle and beneath the breast tissue, or beneath both. Some cosmetic surgeons recommend one over the other based on their particular experience with breast augmentation. Others are quite willing to offer both. • A subglandular placement gives more of a cleavage and a better fill for the bra cup. But there’s also a greater chance of sagging because the breast weight is not supported by muscle. • A submuscular placement is supported by the muscle and is less likely to sag.
3. Round or teardrop-shaped? This is entirely individual preference.
4. What size? Implants are not sized like bra cups. The implant will be of a size to make up the difference between your existing bra size and the size you’d like to have. This is another individual choice, although most cosmetic surgeons do not encourage use of very large sizes that are out of proportion with the rest of your body.
5. Incision location? There are three main choices: • Inframammary (under the breast) • Areola (below the nipple) • Transaxillary (in the armpit)

Heart Diseases Target In Women

Doctors now know that heart disease is so deadly for women that their chances of dying from it are one in two. That means basically that either you or your best girlfriend is likely to die of a heart attack, stroke , or related heart problem. Doctors have traditionally used a one-size-fits-all approach to identifying and diagnosing heart disease. In this view, women often lack the “classic” signs of reduced blood flow to part of the heart, a condition known as ischemia. Doctors and patients often attribute chest pains in women to noncardiac causes, leading to misinterpretation of their condition.

Men usually experience crushing chest pain during a heart attack.
Cardiovascular disease encompasses the diseases of the heart and the blood vessels. These develop and progress slowly over our lifetime and often without symptoms. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) accounts for more deaths than the next seven causes of death in women combined, including all forms of cancer. Since 1984, men have experienced a decline in deaths due to CVD; women have not. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one killer of women in the United States.

Long thought of as primarily affecting men, we now know that CVD—including heart disease, hypertension, and stroke—also affects a substantial number of women.
Estrogen provides a beneficial effect on the arteries. When estrogen production slows down, women lose that protective effect,” Even so, Kusler adds, women in their 30s and 40s still experience heart attacks. Estrogen serves as protection against heart disease in women, therefore once a woman has gone through menopause her risk increases dramatically.
Risk of coronary events begins to decline within months of stopping smoking and reaches the level of persons who have never smoked within 3 to 5 years. Sadly, though, smoking cessation rates have declined more slowly among women than men.

Risk was not associated with dose or duration of use of estrogen and did not persist after oral contraceptives were discontinued.
African Americans are at substantially higher risk for death from CVD than are whites. This difference is attributable in part to a greater risk for strokes and a higher prevalence of high blood pressure among African Americans. African American and Hispanic women, who are at higher risk of heart disease than white women, continue to have lower rates of awareness.
Aspirin therapy is recommended for women over age 65 to prevent heart attack and stroke as long as blood pressure is controlled and the benefit is likely to outweigh the risk of gastrointestinal side effects.

Regular use of aspirin is not recommended for healthy women under age 65 to prevent heart attacks. Aspirin treatment reduced risk of subsequent cardiovascular events by about 25%. Lipid-lowering therapy also appears to provide substantial benefit in secondary prevention in women. Aspirin has also been shown to be of preventive benefit in women to reduce the incidence of coronary artery disease and strokes. In women with multiple risk factors for coronary artery disease, a dose of 325 mg per day is recommended, while in lower-risk women, 81 mg is probably sufficient. Alexis Kenne wrote this article. Getting Rest And Sleep

All the parts of the human body work together, although each one has its especial part to do. The stomach must have a time to rest between meals. The other parts of the body require rest, too. This they usually get while we are asleep. We must not be neglectful and fail to give them enough rest, or they will soon get worn out and give us trouble.
Sometimes, when people are not well or are all tired out, they find they cannot sleep well at night.

There are a number of little things that can be done to induce sleep. A warm bath before retiring, followed by a gentle massage, especially along the spine, often will, by relaxing the nerves and muscles, produce very good results. A hot foot bath, which draws the blood away from the brain, frequently will be found beneficial. A glass of hot milk or cocoa, taken just before retiring, often will have the same effect. If the sleeplessness is a result of indigestion, a plain diet will relieve. Sleeping upon a hard bed without any pillow sometimes produces the desired effect. Always have plenty of fresh air in the room. Keep the mind free from the cares of the day. If they will intrude, crowd them out by repeating something else some soothing sentence or bit of poetry. One good plan is to close the left nostril by pressing on it with the finger, then take four deep breaths through the right nostril.

Then close the right nostril and take four deep breaths through the left one. Repeat this about four times. Then breathe slowly through both nostrils, but count your breaths. You seldom will count very many. Never take any sleeping powders or tablets except upon the advice of a physician, for they usually contain drugs that will injure the heart.
You will find that you will meet a number of men who are nervous, which means they have not control of their nerves, but let them run away with them. Sometimes this is shown in palpitation of the heart, headache, backache, and many other disorders. There may be a tendency to cry at trivial things, or a feeling of having "the blues." The cause usually can be found in uncongenial surroundings or occupation, loss of friends, or real or fancied troubles. Whatever the cause, it should be removed, if possible, and measures taken to restore the worn out nerves that are crying for rest or food.

Tonics help, so does nourishing food, such as eggs and milk; also a change of scene and occupation, if possible. A man who is nervous frequently does not realize what is the cause of his condition, and considers only the symptoms. So when he has a headache, resorts to medicine. In taking these she only is deadening the pain and not removing the cause, so the pain is liable to return.

How to Make Strong Flirting Eye Contact

Eye contact is one of the most powerful tools any man can use when attracting and seducing a woman. Strong eye contact is rare. If you make eye contact, you’d be surprised how quickly most people’s eyes will dart away.
There are a few key aspects about eye contact between a man and a woman that will either have them instantly attracted to you, or instantly repelled. This is, in many cases, the first quality that will demonstrate either high or low value to a woman.
Strong eye contact will turn a girl on. It shows that you are comfortable with yourself and others. A true alpha male will never break eye contact first, whether it be with a man or a woman.
When you make eyes with a woman, never break eye contact first. Even if it has been 10 seconds (which is an Eternity when staring into the eyes of a stranger) do NOT BREAK. If anything, at that point you could stick your tongue out or something silly to break the sexual tension.

This might be very hard for you at first, but there is a simple task you can do which will give you strong eye contact skills. Walk around and make eye contact with everyone. Never break first. If its a guy chances are he’ll just look away, or if he holds it for a while usually a “whats up man” will follow as you pass. If a guy gets serious with you saying something dumb like “what are you lookin at buddy” just say “thought you were an old friend" or something along those lines.
Doing this with girls is fun. Whatever reaction she gives you, you can feel free to give back. If you get a smile, give a smile. If you get a hi, give a hi. Confident girls will hold eye contact and almost always smile. Unconfident girls will look away. Work on this every day and you will have strong flirting eye contact skills, possibly the most important tool for picking up girls.

Becoming A Gentleman

Sympathy, Knowledge and Poise seem to be the three ingredients that are most needed in forming the Gentle Man. I place these elements according to their value. No man is great who does not have Sympathy plus, and the greatness of men can be safely gauged by their sympathies. Sympathy and imagination are twin sisters. Your heart must go out to all men, the high, the low, the rich, the poor, the learned, the unlearned, the good, the bad, the wise and the foolish it is necessary to be one with them all, else you can never comprehend them. Sympathy! it is the touchstone to every secret, the key to all knowledge, the open sesame of all hearts. Put yourself in the other man's place and then you will know why he thinks certain things and does certain deeds. Put yourself in his place and your blame will dissolve itself into pity, and your tears will wipe out the record of his misdeeds. The saviors of the world have simply been men with wondrous sympathy.
But Knowledge must go with Sympathy, else the emotions will become maudlin and pity may be wasted on a poodle instead of a child; on a field-mouse instead of a human soul. Knowledge in use is wisdom, and wisdom implies a sense of values you know a big thing from a little one, a valuable fact from a trivial one. Tragedy and comedy are simply questions of value: a little misfit in life makes us laugh, a great one is tragedy and cause for expression of grief.
Poise is the strength of body and strength of mind to control your Sympathy and your Knowledge. Unless you control your emotions they run over and you stand in the mire. Sympathy must not run riot, or it is valueless and tokens weakness instead of strength. In every hospital for nervous disorders are to be found many instances of this loss of control. The individual has Sympathy but not Poise, and therefore his life is worthless to himself and to the world.

He symbols inefficiency and not helpfulness. Poise reveals itself more in voice than it does in words; more in thought than in action; more in atmosphere than in conscious life. It is a spiritual quality, and is felt more than it is seen. It is not a matter of bodily size, nor of bodily attitude, nor attire, nor of personal comeliness: it is a state of inward being, and of knowing your cause is just. And so you see it is a great and profound subject after all, great in its ramifications, limitless in extent, implying the entire science of right living. I once met a man who was deformed in body and little more than a dwarf, but who had such Spiritual Gravity such Poise that to enter a room where he was, was to feel his presence and acknowledge his superiority. To allow Sympathy to waste itself on unworthy objects is to deplete one's life forces. To conserve is the part of wisdom, and reserve is a necessary element in all good literature, as well as in everything else.
Poise being the control of our Sympathy and Knowledge, it implies a possession of these attributes, for without having Sympathy and Knowledge you have nothing to control but your physical body. To practise Poise as a mere gymnastic exercise, or study in etiquette, is to be self-conscious, stiff, preposterous and ridiculous. Those who cut such fantastic tricks before high heaven as make angels weep, are men void of Sympathy and Knowledge trying to cultivate Poise. Their science is a mere matter of what to do with arms and legs. Poise is a question of spirit controlling flesh, heart controlling attitude.
Get Knowledge by coming close to Nature. That man is the greatest who best serves his kind. Sympathy and Knowledge are for use you acquire that you may give out; you accumulate that you may bestow. And as God has given unto you the sublime blessings of Sympathy and Knowledge, there will come to you the wish to reveal your gratitude by giving them out again; for the wise man is aware that we retain spiritual qualities only as we give them away. Let your light shine. To him that hath shall be given. The exercise of wisdom brings wisdom; and at the last the infinitesimal quantity of man's knowledge, compared with the Infinite, and the smallness of man's Sympathy when compared with the source from which ours is absorbed, will evolve an abnegation and a humility that will lend a perfect Poise. The Gentleman is a man with perfect Sympathy, Knowledge, and Poise.

How To Enter Into Society

The desire of pleasing is, of course, the basis of social connexion. Persons who enter society with the intention of producing an effect, and of being distinguished, however clever they may be, are never agreeable. They are always tiresome, and often ridiculous. Persons, who enter life with such pretensions, have no opportunity for improving themselves and profiting by experience. They are not in a proper state to observe: indeed, they look only for the effect which they produce, and with that they are not often gratified. They thrust themselves into all conversations, indulge in continual anecdotes, which are varied only by dull disquisitions, listen to others with impatience and heedlessness, and are angry that they seem to be attending to themselves. Such men go through scenes of pleasure, enjoying nothing. They are equally disagreeable to themselves and others. Young men should, therefore, content themselves with being natural. Let them present themselves with a modest assurance: let them observe, hear, and examine, and before long they will rival their models.
The quality which a young man should most affect in intercourse with gentlemen, is a decent modesty: but he must avoid all bashfulness or timidity. His flights must not go too far; but, so far as they go, let them be marked by perfect assurance.
Among persons who are much your seniors behave with the utmost respectful deference. As they find themselves sliding out of importance they may be easily conciliated by a little respect.
By far the most important thing to be attended to, is ease of manner. Grace may be added afterwards, or be omitted altogether: it is of much less moment than is commonly believed. Perfect propriety and entire ease are sufficient qualifications for standing in society, and abundant prerequisites for distinction.
There is the most delicate shade of difference between civility and intrusiveness, familiarity and common-place, pleasantry and sharpness, the natural and the rude, gaiety and carelessness; hence the inconveniences of society, and the errors of its members. To define well in conduct these distinctions, is the great art of a man of the world. It is easy to know what to do; the difficulty is to know what to avoid.
Long usage a sort of moral magnetism, a tact acquired by frequent and long associating with others alone give those qualities which keep one always from error, and entitle him to the name of a thorough gentleman.

A young man upon first entering into society should select those persons who are most celebrated for the propriety and elegance of their manners. He should frequent their company and imitate their conduct. There is a disposition inherent, in all, which has been noticed by Horace and by Dr. Johnson, to imitate faults, because they are more readily observed and more easily followed. There are, also, many foibles of manner and many refinements of affectation, which sit agreeably upon one man, which if adopted by another would become unpleasant. There are even some excellences of deportment which would not suit another whose character is different. For successful imitation in anything, good sense is indispensable. It is requisite correctly to appreciate the natural differences between your model and yourself, and to introduce such modifications in the copy as may be consistent with it.
Let not any man imagine, that he shall easily acquire these qualities which will constitute him a gentleman. It is necessary not only to exert the highest degree of art, but to attain also that higher accomplishment of concealing art. The serene and elevated dignity which mark that character, are the result of untiring and arduous effort.

How to Make Your Own Party and Attract Women Easily!

Sup guys! I'm going to tell you the MAIN difference between the mindset of a guy and that of a girl, when going to a club. If you're reading this blog, then you are a guy who wants to pick up girls. You see them, and you want them. Maybe you've had success in the past. Maybe you've never been laid before ever. Regardless, you want them.
So what does a guy like you (and I) do? We go out to the bars in search of these gorgeous women who are out and looking great. That's the reason guys go to the bars and clubs.
What are the girls doing? They are out to DANCE. "Screw guys tonight, I just want to dance!!!!" And it's true. But, only for social reasons. Girls can't declare to themselves, "I'm going out tonight to get laid by a random guy!!", because then they are "sluts". So they go out and have a dance party and really just have a great time with their girlfriends.
See, these girls are in their own world, and having a GREAT TIME. Any dude who approaches these girls without a party raging inside him of equal or greater value is getting NOWHERE with them. After all, why would you go do something less fun (talk to a lame guy) than what you are already doing (dancing with your chicks yay!!!)? You wouldn't.
The point?
Have your OWN party! "Screw girls, I just want to dance tonight, with my bros!! my Fellas!!" HELL YEA! You'll be the only dudes in the club who are having fun, which right away does 2 things:

1. You get to HAVE FUN
2. You stand out as the only dudes who can generate their own fun
Girls LOVE to be around Fun guys. Now this doesn't mean you have to be a big homo dancing with guys all night. I'm not telling you that you have to dance with guys at all. I'm saying, enjoy yourself and your company, no matter who and where it is. Make your own party. Say something goofy to the girl next to you, throw her a huge smirk and a laugh and a bump on the shoulder. Mess around with everyone and do EXACTLY what you want to do, when you want to do it!
This ability to feel great and have a great time, anywhere and everywhere, is the core ability to becoming magnetically attractive to women and a social giant. Much more will be discussed about this in the future, so stay tuned! ;)
Party ON!

Self-Employment Is Not For Everyone

Challenge Yourself To Break Away From Tradition The challenge of self-employment can be overwhelming to a person who has always worked for someone else. The very idea of self-employment sends ripples of fear and anxiety into the heart of traditional workers. Traditional people do not seriously think about stepping into the unfamiliar world of self-reliance. Most people are very comfortable and thrive in the traditional workforce. Simply put, most people are follows who don’t want to be independent. Society has spawn a compliant workforce that happily does its bidding. Most people are followers, “wage earners” and do not desire freedom or seek the complexities of self-employment. They don’t have the courage nor persistence to break away from the mold and become anything different.
Is Job security a plus? Average people are obedient to traditional ideas and will not break from civil boundaries. The comfort of following becomes their life’s compliancy. The tried and proven formula is: “a job equals a paycheck equals security equals satisfaction.” Their main objective is to pay the bills, not their job or independence. When a person becomes complacent, he/she loses the motivation to excel or expand. His/her expectant perception becomes narrow and predictable and he/she settles into a mental daze. As the self is subdued, attention is given to the material world stimulus such as TV, hobbies or seeking relationships. That small creative fire within that could have been a roaring fire, grows cold and eventually goes out.
Why be self-employed? Why would anyone want to be self-employed? Isn’t working for someone else, less risky and just plain easier? Quite possibility it is easier and more reliable working for someone else. But that is no consolation for some of us, we must step outside the box to find and experience a real life experience. It’s not about freedom, no one is truly free, it’s about the challenge and satisfying an inner urge for living life to its fullest. It’s about an adrenalin rush in the risk and facing life in a whole new dimension. And in the end, it’s about finding your true self.
Find a suitable profession Unless you are an inventor or super smart, you will become self-employed doing something that many have tried and proven in the past. Perhaps your approach may be personalized, but in the end your product or service has already been done, many times over. But, there is one big difference between you and others that have gone before you and that ingredient that magic pill that spawns greatness is . . . You! You are the factor in the success formula. The depth of your endeavor depends on your ability to perform. You must prepare to dedicate yourself for battle by making certain you can face the challenges ahead.
Believe in yourself Your core beliefs must be high spirited and executed with confidence. Like an Olympian trains for the game, if you are to be a contender, you must also train for success. Success only come to those who pay the price for it. You must sacrifice yourself to the intensity of the challenge. Being adequately prepared could be the difference between success and failure.
What turns a person away from a traditional job and toward self discovery? Many times it’s need. The need to fulfill a requirement, desire or pressure from his/her environment. Most often when there is pressure for money, most people will get a part time job to fill their need. They get the mindset that they need extra money over and above what their current job provides. They don’t think of a complete change in venue.
The fact is, if you have an independent spirit, you will never be satisfied working for someone else. You will constantly be dissatisfied and have a feeling of incompleteness. Your spirit will demand more of you and until you comply, you will never be settled.
Meet the challenge head on. The challenge is not what you are going to do, it’s “if” and “how” you are going to do it. First off, choose something you can do. Don’t worry about loving it and all that junk, just find something you can be productive in. You’re going to be competing with other people, no matter how you look at it, so choose and get started.
Hone your peoples skills People have a lot of choices and thus far none have been for you. They want quality, low price and most of all, someone they can trust. Build confidence through mannerisms and by being professional and standing by your word. Always treat your customer like a respected equal. Build solid relationships and your customers will refer you to their other acquaintances which is called, “center of influence” marketing.
There’s nothing to it but to do it! The mechanics of starting a home based business are all pretty much the same. Just follow protocol and lean heavily on your own expertise.

Escape from current lifestyle

If we don't like our job, our house, or if we are generally unhappy about our position in life, we naturally try to change our circumstances. When we are uncomfortable with any situation, we instinctively attempt to escape from it. We might feel angry inside, or frustrated thinking that something external is the problem – maybe our job or our situation, and we think that if we can just change the situations, we will be happy internally. But have you ever studied what actually happens when you try to escape? Have you ever been able to escape?
During our lifetimes, all of us have gone through the above exercises innumerable times, and we have all had some happy times as well, without a doubt, but how long has the happiness lasted? We strive to be forever happy, but happiness just doesn't work that way; happiness is always in flux, is always temporary, and never a constant reality. The externals, that we originally think will make us happy, eventually double-cross us and become that from which we eventually attempt to escape.

At first, the job was great, but now it's not. At first, our life was great, but then something changed, something happened, and we are unhappy once more. We simply don't seem to understand the mechanics of happiness and unhappiness. But even when we do garner an inkling of how they work, we still don't accept them; we think that we can somehow wriggle out of their truth. But we can't, and until we accept that we can't, we will continue to beat our heads against a stone wall trying to circumvent the fact that when we count on externals, we can never be happy for long. Only an internal solution will work long term.
We fool ourselves by thinking that if we can keep things from changing- if our relationship remains vital, if only our car would stay in style, if our bodies would remain healthy, then we could maintain our happiness. if the problem is investigated carefully, however, we will discover that no matter what we do to keep things on sn even keel, they will nevertheless change on us. Either the actual circumstances will change, or our own feelings and outlook will change. Then, the happiness that once was, evaporates. This has been going on non-stop since we were born, and this discontent that we feel constantly is the one thing that never changes.
So we have a choice; we can continue living these ups and downs for the rest of our lives, relying on outside changing circumstances and never knowing from one moment to the next when they will double-cross us, or how long we will be happy. Or, we can find that which is within, that which never changes; that which the sages and saints speak about.
It isn't that saints and sages don't suffer greatly when they make the transition from relying on externals for their happiness, to internally investigating their minds. They suffer, because the first step, which is foregoing the pleasures of externals in order to quiet the mind, is the most difficult. But it is the only way to search internally.
Turning ones back on all those wonderful promises that the externals have to offer is not easy, but it gets easier when we begin to see how externals mislead us. "Look over here! This new car and house and wife will make you happy!" Or; "Look over here! This new relationship, career, situation will surely make you happy!"
And in the end, if we are fortunate, we begin to see how the hollow promises of external stimulations set us up for discontent every time.
Eventually, if we are serious about finding a permanent solution to our stress, these desires for sense stimulations begin to fade, and a small spot in our heart begins to grow. This is a special spot; one that never depends on external pleasures for its contentment, and therefore once this heart center begins to grow, we no longer can become lost in our pleasures as before. Now we become more careful about pleasures, understanding their treachery and understanding how they addict us.
We see that our dependency upon fleeting external pleasures is no different from any other dependency, because when we can't indulge in them, we have withdrawal pain. We might call it boredom, or being fed up, but it boils down to a lack of positive sensory stimulation, with which we are addicted.
The first step in becoming wise to the tricks of the mind is refusing to allow the mind to rule your life. Use the mind to make a living and go about the affairs of a human being, but don't let it go past actual needs and into a desire for pleasure. If you do, that sets you up for pain. There can be no desire for pleasure without resultant pain. That would be impossible.
Becoming wise to the mind equates to becoming aware of both our thoughts and our emotional states created from those thoughts. In order to do this, we must slow the mind from its frantic pursuits, those things that spin us around and around. We believe that thought is alive, vital, but thought is dead. Thoughts are merely old computer files that cannot help us in this very moment, which is the only moment we have, and where true creativity, not thought, is required to live life to its fullest.
Void of addictions, void of distractions, and void of the false promises of happiness, our life now has the potential to take on a new meaning beyond happiness and unhappiness, beyond pleasure and pain, and beyond existence, as we know it.
No longer do we try to escape the human predicament, because there is no fundamental escape, and as we fall into the arms of that acceptance, we suddenly realize that, in fact, there never was anything from which to escape.
The one who could never escape was nothing more than an illusion, a fantasy created by our minds, a bubble in a stream, a flash of lightening. It was merely our "I" thought.

Your hands must as well be free of creams or any grease in turn not to change the actual painting. The Louvre Museum In Paris France

The Louvre was originally a royal palace that was built on the site of an old castle and added to by different Kings, but with the construction of Chateau de Versailles it became obsolete and was then turned into a museum back in the 1700's.
It was first given the name Musee Central des Arts, then it changed to the Musee Napoleon and from that changed its name again to the official title of Musee du Louvre, which is what it has been known as ever since, although is affectionately known as just The Louvre.
Being one of the oldest and largest museums, it is home to probably the most well-known painting in the world, the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and has become the most famous and most visited art museum in the world with over 8 million visitors coming here every year.
In an easily accessible part of Paris located by the River Seine, The Louvre once again incorporates the beautiful Carrousel and the Tuileries Gardens that are a great place for a casual stroll, yet this means that it brings the museum outside with sculptures and statues from artists such as Aristide Maillol and Auguste Rodin.
Most people now find The Louvre recognisable by the large glass pyramid that is located in the central courtyard and this serves as the main entrance to this awe inspiring Paris museum, which is in alignment with the Champs-Elysees axis, but did you realise that it was only actually built in 1989! And it is from this point that tourists can access different temporary displays, the fascinating history of this world famous museum, along with the bookshop, Le Cafe Marly restaurant, etc, but also outside there is an equestrian statue of King Louis XIV.
Even if you are not a fan of art, you will still thoroughly enjoy your time at The Louvre, as it houses some very impressive collections, which include Egyptian, Roman and Greek artefacts, sculptures and other works of art that date back to the Middle Ages, right through to around 1850.
Realistically you need at least a day, or even more at The Louvre, as only allocating a few hours does not do the place justice, but it is extremely worthwhile obtaining a map of the place, as it is so vast you could end up missing exhibits you specifically wanted to see, especially if you have time restraints, yet do not be concerned that the exhibits are not all on one level as there are lifts to make them accessible to wheelchair users.
Obviously there is an entrance fee, but on the first Sunday of the month this and many other museums in Paris are completely free, however it also gets extremely busy, but arriving early and making a bee-line for famous exhibits like Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People, will ensure you get a good view before they get too crowded!
Yet when you need a well earned rest or need to refuel your body, then there is an enormous different choice of food on offer in the cafeterias and restaurants and incredibly, there are six different cafes and restaurants to choose from, that are open every day except for a Tuesday when the whole museum is also closed.
Whilst visiting The Louvre, do venture into the bookstore located in the Hall Napoleon under the glass pyramid and along with visitors guides available in more than ten different languages, it also stocks the largest selection of books on art history in France, plus has numerous other books, a children's section and even sells prints made up from the museums collection, with absolute thousands to choose from.
Now we quickly mentioned visitors guides, and if you are not fluent in the French language, then we would say that this is a must to fully appreciate the place, as many of the exhibit descriptions are not in any other language bar French, alternatively, if you plan your visit to the Musee du Louvre well in advance, you can have a guided tour that lasts about 2 hours and takes you round the most well known exhibits, leaving you to wander around the rest of this museum at your own leisure afterwards.
There will definitely be something of interest for everyone at The Louvre, including children, and it certainly lives up to its reputation of the best museum to visit when in Paris, but do bear in mind that it is closed every Tuesday and on national holidays, but is open from 9am to 6pm every other day and also has a late night opening on a Wednesday until 10pm.

Acoustic Guitar Tablature - Is It Real Sheet Music?

As a beginner acoustic guitarist you're probably wondering whether learning your songs from guitar tablature is as good as getting them from "real" sheet music. Learning to play acoustic guitar is a great adventure which is sometimes spoilt a bit by the prospect of having to learn to read music. But for most acoustic guitar players, learning all the symbols and theory connected with musical notation is not really necessary.
Tablature for acoustic guitar has certain points giving it an edge over standard music notation. Actually historians tell us that tablature was used to record musical compositions long before conventional notation. They don't seem to have much idea how musicians attributed note values to compositions they has never heard played. Maybe it wasn't an issue in the sixteenth century.
So what do you learn from tabs? Tablature shows diagrammatically where finger positions are indicated using numbers representing the guitar's frets along horizontal lines representing the strings. The note G played on the first (thinnest) string is shown by the number 3 written on the top line of the tablature. Sometimes the person writing the tablature will group the notes together to show that they are all the same value but this is not a hard and fast rule.
Hammer-ons, string bends, pull-offs and other techniques are shown by symbols. Each tablature writer has his own idea of the best way to show how to play the music, and he usually includes a legend showing his symbols on each tab. With the aid of guitar tabs, you can learn new music quickly without going to the additional trouble of learning conventional music notation.
Despite the fact that tempo and time signatures are not included, sometimes it's easier for the guitarist to pick up music from tablature. The ease with which you can learn to read tablature means that your progress on the guitar is not slowed by the need to cope with such things as the use of alternate tunings.

Another bonus is in the ease in sharing acoustic guitar music on the internet. Guitar tab is easily written on a computer by way of ASCII code, which makes it easier to email or post on the web. Maybe when you get some guitar playing experience under your belt you could try writing some music down for yourself. A great chance to see the difficulties facing composers for the guitar. Unfortunately debate over copyright issues has made posting guitar tab a little bit contentious, but you can still share tab privately by email.
A lot of guitar teachers proclaim the virtues of learning to read sheet music. Some even think you are not a "real" musician unless you can read "real" music. If you have a burning desire to follow a career in music then the versatility given you by the ability to read music will be a definite advantage. But if you look at playing music as a way of each individual expressing themselves in their own unique way, then how you write your music down is not one of the biggest issues in your life!

Forming the identity of Maryland's Dorchester County

Talar du svenska? Do you speak Swedish? Probably not, but if things had happened a little differently in the early and mid-1600s, we might be using that Scandinavian language now. In those days, one of the regional powers was Sweden, then experiencing its period of greatest expansion and military influence. New Sweden, or Nya Sverige, was a small settlement along the Delaware River. It was based at Fort Christina, now the city of Wilmington, Delaware. The colony extended up both banks of the river, so it included parts of present-day Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Not only Swedes, but also Finns and Dutch came to the region, pursuing Sweden’s goal of creating a tobacco- and fur-trading colony in competition with the French and British.
“The first Swedish expedition to North America embarked from the port of Gothenburg in late 1637,” Wikipedia tells us. “The members of the expedition, aboard the ships Fogel Grip and Kalmar Nyckel, sailed into Delaware Bay, which lay within the territory claimed by the Dutch, passing Cape May and Cape Henlopen in late March, 1638.” They anchored at a rocky point on the Minquas Kill, where they established their fort, named after the Queen of Sweden. “Kill,” by the way, is a Dutch word that simply means “stream.” So if you ever cross the Murderkill River in southern Kent County, Delaware, fear not - its name is derived not from violence, but the more soothing Dutch words for “mother” and “stream.” Not long after the Swedes arrived, disputes with the Dutch, English and Indians arose concerning deeds to property. The Swedes even supported the Susquehannocks in their victory in a 1644 war against the English colony of Maryland.
In 1654, the Swedes took the Dutch Fort Casimir, leading to Dutch reprisals a year later. This was the beginning of the end for the Swedes. Though they maintained a measure of autonomy, within a decade the English conquered the New Netherland colony in 1664. Would Dorchester ever have become Swedish? We can’t know today, but with neighboring Sussex County at one time ruled by Swedes (who called it Hoarkill,) things could have gone differently. Borders were fluid, with a number of groups vying for control, each with documents and claims they considered valid. For instance, Hoarkill County wasn’t finally assimilated into British rule until 1680. But Dorchester’s own maps in 1669 showed the county’s boundaries following the Choptank River and Tuckahoe Creek as far as they went inland from the Chesapeake and then continuing on to Delaware Bay - certainly not something the Swedes were ready to agree to at that time. Today, Dorchester is Maryland’s biggest county.
But in those days, it was considerably larger, at least in terms of square miles - it is estimated that in 1659, there were only 100 homes in Dorchester from the bay to the ocean. By 1669, this had at least doubled and about 1,000 people had settled in this vast area. The early borders formed a rectangle that included what is now Caroline County and half of Sussex. “They gave Dorchester some very nice oceanfront where Delaware Bay and the Atlantic join northeast of Cape Henlopen,” says “Footnotes to Dorchester History” by Walter E. Huelle. In 1669, only Somerset County shared land on the Eastern Shore with Dorchester. Lord Baltimore gave William Stevens of Somerset permission to lay out and grant tracts on Delaware Bay. However, with the ascension in 1685 of King James II, the Catholic Calverts of Maryland fell out of favor and the king gave Delaware to the Quaker leader William Penn. This cut Dorchester’s property in half. English surveyors Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon finished the job of delineating the county. While the 1773 project gave us their namesake Mason-Dixon line forming the division between North and South, their work extended farther - Caroline County was also carved out during the job, and this completed Dorchester’s borders.
In the end, they did establish boundaries among Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware from the mountains to the sea. “Footnotes to Dorchester History” says, “The stone markers for the Mason-Dixon Line, bearing the arms of Penn on one side and those of the Calverts on the other, were made in England and after being shipped to America, were landed in Dorchester on both the Choptank and Nanticoke Rivers.” So it took nearly one and a half centuries for Dorchester to take its current shape. But for the results of early struggles among colonial powers, history and even language and culture could have ended up quite differently. As it is, most of us would have to tell a Swedish visitor, “Jag pratar inte svenska.” “I don’t speak Swedish.” To read more about Dorchester, visit www.faraway-places.com and click on the “Life on Delmarva” link.

How to Draw Great Pencil Sketches

It's easy to be impressed by any drawing that's drawn by a skilled pencil artist. A skilled pencil artist can sketch a drawing with such fine details that it looks almost like a black and white photograph. How do they achieve this realistic effect?
First, let's start by understanding that there's nothing complicated about making a pencil sketch. At least when it comes to the tools involved, there's just pencil and paper. There's no color mixing, no drying times, and other complications compared to working with paints. But if it's so simple, why do some art students still find it difficult to master pencil sketching?
The answer lies in two areas: the observational skills of the artist, and the mastery of the pencil. Let's talk a little bit about using the pencil.
This is a technique thing. For instance, there are many different levels of pencil blends that can be achieved with different pencils, and not artists are able to achieve a wide range of blending effects. As a result, they're limited by their own skills in terms of expressing themselves on paper.
One popular technique is called the hatching, or the cross hatching technique, which is basically shading by using lines. Another popular technique is called the caressing technique, where you use a paper stump or a finger to create smooth blends. A combination of these techniques allow the pencil artist to eloquently capture the desired effects on paper.
The other thing that sets the students apart from the masters is the observational skills. Different artists observe and perceive things differently. They also have different concepts and thoughts about the things they see and usually come up with different interpretations based on their past experiences.

Some artists choose to draw close to reality, while others choose to express their ideas. Depending on what's more important to the artist, the end result can be very different.
But remember that the fundamentals of drawing remains the same. Strengthen the fundamentals and use your skills as a way to express your own artists. If you can do so, you're on your way to drawing great pencil sketches.

Frame Your Art Prints

Let's start by addressing the seller of art prints. As an art seller, you have the option of offering framing options to your customers. The price of the art print may vary depending on the type of framing that the customer chooses.
So should the seller offer framing options to the customers? To answer this question, the art seller needs to know if offering framing to his customers will increase sales. In other words, is it worth the time and effort to offer framing? Note that there's the consideration of time and cost to offer framing services

Is it worth it to put in the time and effort to offer framing then? Here's how the process works. Once a seller offers framing options, the customer has the chance to choose. He may ask the seller questions about the different types of frames and finally decides on the frame that he likes best. This interaction and time for consideration means additional time from the seller.
Once the frame is chosen, more time is needed to frame the art print. When the frame is ready, the art priint will then be shipped to the customer. But because the frame carries weight, this means additional shipping costs for the customers. Will the customer want to pay for this additional cost? Some will, some will not. The seller has to take the time to understand the behavior of his pool of customers here.
Now let's consider framing from the buyer's perspective. What would you have to consider if you're looking to frame an art print that you're buying?
As mentioned earlier, you'll have to consider the additional time you need to wait for the framing to be done, and will most likely have to pay extra for the shipping cost.
If you've already decided to frame the art print, and want to save some money, you may want to consider ordering the art print and then have it framed at a local art store. Most art stores offer framing services.
Butthis also means additional work on your part, because you'll have to take the print down to the store and collect it later. If it's not worth the trouble, let the vendor frame the art print and then ship it to you.

ibranding....Free Promotion

To have a successful album you need the media involved whether you just have a great life story or create controversy. This can sell albums and help out your career greatly. Think of publicity as free advertising. Any media that is available will work to get you more exposure and hopefully in turn get more shows and sell more records. Many artists would be surprised how much press they can obtain if they just ask. You must have a good press kit or at least photos, music, and a good biography to email to get press.

If you do not have one of the three above then don’t try because they are all needed to get coverage with a respected publication. One thing every artist should do is find emails to create a mailing list of press. This can be done by simply going to the websites of the press pertaining to your genre and searching in their “contact us” page or by buying the magazine and checking the articles. Not all magazines give out emails, but many can be found on places like Myspace, Facebook, and other popular networking sites also.

When contacting the press, remember that they receive a large number of emails a day so your story must have a catch to it and be interesting for it to print. Also, the theme must pertain to what the magazine is about. No media outlet wants to hear how you are the best artist etc……They want facts and stories that will be interesting to their viewers. To really take advantage of press……and if you have the extra funds, then the best way to go is to hire a public relations company or a publicist who has a history of working with artists in your genre, who has results and is able to show them.

A good publicist can run you anywhere from $500 to $4000 a month, depending on what company you hire and what you need. Here at College DJ we would like to recommend Fabiola Fleuranvil of N.Y.L.A. Entertainment Group.
http://www.nylaentertainmentgroup.com/ Remember you do not need a publicist year round if you aren’t an artist with a large budget -but signing a publicist for a few months before and after the release of your next single, mixtape or album…..greatly increases the chances of making your next project more successful.

Photo Collage For a VisionBedding Photo Product

With the right tools and a little helpful advice, the possibilities are endless when it comes to designing the perfect VisionBedding photo product. Anything you can create on your computer screen can be put onto a photo product, through a special dye process. You'll see 3 easy ways to create 3 unique and very creative collage options. Each one you can do yourself using as many pictures, words, and colors as you want and the result is a beautiful gift and display of treasured memories.
Tools and Skills Needed to Begin
To begin your masterpiece, there are some simple tools and skills that are needed for creating your unique design. You will need some kind of photo editing program, this can range from a complex program like Adobe Photoshop or Corel Photo to a simpler program such as Gimp (this is a free downloadable program, that is very safe and easy-to-use). If you do not have a photo editing program already, Gimp is a good tool to use and can be downloaded by going to www.gimp.org. You will want to become familiar with the program, especially the cropping tool, text tool, paint bucket tool, and selection or hand tool (used to move pictures and text around on the page). The main advantage to these programs is the function of having separate layers. This means that each picture and text box can be moved around freely without affecting the pictures and words that are around it, and it remains a separate entity the entire time you're working on your design.
A few other things you will want to become familiar with are changing the image size (of your pictures), the selection tool, and opening and dragging layers from one canvas to another. These are very basic and simple things to learn and can usually be figured out by practicing and becoming familiar with the program, or by reading about the program online. Now that you have the basic idea of what you will be doing, keep in mind that in order for your product to be clear and good quality, your design must be clear. This means that you will want to start with a canvas size of:
1. 6"x6" at 300 DPI (DPI is dots per inch and refers to the resolution) for a photo throw pillow
2. 4.5"x7" at 300 DPI for the Pillow Sham
3. 9"x12" at 300 DPI for a Small photo blanket (the 30"x40" Photo Blanket)
4. 10"x12" at 300 DPI for a Medium (50"x60" Photo Blanket) and Large (60"x72" Photo Blanket)
Collage Type #1 - Pictures on a Show-Through Background
The first collage option we'll look at is the multiple picture layout, on a show through background. This means that the pictures will be spread out, and a background color will show through giving it a bordered or framed effect. To begin, pick the background color of your choice and use the paint bucket tool to fill it in (you will always be able to change it later and if you are unsure you can just make it white). Resize your pictures so they are proportional to the size of the product and drag them onto you canvas. Continue to move them around until you are satisfied with the layout, this may mean you have to crop pictures more or less. Once you have your layout decided, go ahead and add in any text such as important dates, names, quotes or messages. Don't forget you can change the color of your text and add an outline or drop shadow to give it a 3D effect. Once you have finished your collage, save your image as a jpeg (picture file) in a folder or on the desktop where you will be able to find it later.
TIPS-

'Photo
1. If you need extra pictures to fill in a space, try using a duplicate picture but cropping it differently.
2. Adding drop shadows to the pictures can make your pictures take up more space and also give it a 3D raised effect.
3. If you cannot decide on a single background color, try using a gradient background or adding a border around the edge of the blanket.
4. Sometimes black, white, or shades of grey work best for the background color, if your pictures are very colorful. This will allow the pictures and their color to stand out more and really bring out their vibrant colors.
Collage Type #2 - A Solid Block of Pictures
The second type of collage layout that is very popular is where each picture touches another picture. There are no gaps or background color. However, it can be tricky to make this layout with a set number of pictures, so you may want to have extra pictures just in case or be willing to duplicate some pictures. The best way to begin this layout is to have a main picture that you want as the focal point that is bigger than the others or directly in the center of the product. You will want to utilize the grids in your photo editing program. Try to stick with even numbers when cropping your pictures such as 3"x5" or 4"x6", etc. This will help you get pictures to line up correctly and since pictures are taken in these dimensions already, you won't have to cut anyone out of a picture when you crop it. Once you have the entire top of the product filled up with pictures, save your final design as a jpeg in a file or folder where you can easily locate it.
TIPS
1. Always measure the space you have to fill up before you crop your photos. This will help everything to line up better and makes it much easier.
2. Try grouping pictures together to make squares. Squares are much easier to work with than rectangles. (see diagram for example)
3. For this type of layout, make sure that the automatic select is turned on. This means when you click on a picture it will automatically go to that layer so you can move it around. It will save you time of trying to search through your layers to find the right picture, just so you can move it a few inches.
Collage Type #3 - Picture Cut-Outs on Background
The third type of collage layout is cutting out pictures in different shapes such as hearts, stars, ovals, etc. It is not as difficult as it may sound. To begin open your pictures in your photo editing program. Use the selection tool to either draw a shape onto the picture or use a preset shape, heart, star, or oval, to select the part of the picture that you want to see on the blanket. Then drag the selected part of your picture onto your product canvas. You can change the backing color by using the paint bucket or gradient tool on the bottom (or background) layer. You can add shapes, multiple borders, and anything else you can think of to make your product a work of art.
TIPS
1. Certain shapes can be difficult to cut out, especially hearts and stars. To save some trouble, you may want to cut out the picture in a circle or oval shape and then put it on a heart or star shape.
2. This type of layout offers complete freedom when it comes creating your background. Experimenting with different effects (filters) can unleash some really cool designs and also help you become more familiar with your design / photo editing program.
3. Watch about resizing your image by dragging and pulling it to make it larger, this can result in poor quality pictures. It's always better to use your "image size" tool since it will retain quality and simply shrink and enlarge the pixel size.

What Defines Antique Furniture.

Furniture that is only a few decades old can now be considered antique. When buying antique furniture should first consider what it will be used for. Are you buying antique items for display or everyday use.
If you are in the market for antique furniture there are a few things that you have to realize first. Styles have changed drastically and in recent years even furniture from the 1960s and even the early 1970s is considered to be antique now. So there is a lot to learn and know about antique furniture but what is most important is what you find attractive.
For many people it is the well constructed claw footed oak furniture that they prefer. If its from the early 1800s on it can be purchased for a reasonable price and it blends well with modern furniture in a home or office. A nice antique oak table with big claw style feet works great in any setting and is both beautiful and functional.
One thing to remember is that most of the time if a piece of antique furniture has been refinished it is of lesser value. This is unless the piece was in dire need of repair before hand. In any case it is always best to look for antique furniture that has its original finish.
Some of the most valuable American antique furniture was made in any one of the original thirteen colonies on the east coast prior to the revolutionary war.
Antique furniture from this era can easily run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars for even just a chair. If you are in the market for antique furniture that is going to be used heavily then you should give some consideration to just what you are buying.
Buying valuable antique chairs for a dining room table that children are going to be using will only lead to heartbreak as you watch them slowly get demolished. This means that if your antique furniture is going to be used a lot then you should give consideration to buying solidly built wood pieces.
